Worthwhile Work Experience

For the past week I've been doing work experience at the Independent Newspapers buildings with the Sunday Tribune news team. I was able to travel around with some really interesting, hard working journalists who are also such genuine people. I'll be putting up some photographs I shot whilst with them. Each story had a different vibe and I've really been introduced to a whole new world (cue cheesy Aladdin soundtrack, please).
A very common image in South African newspapers. Strikers angry at an ANC councillor who allegedly assaulted a municipal worker. Rough. I travelled with journalist Nathi Olifant to cover the story.

This picture was taken in Ballito. Not the greatest or anything special. Journo Matthew Savides and I first went off to meet with the manager of a Municipality. I've not been apart of many formal meetings but this one was by far the most tedious I've ever attended, it didn't help that I need to peeeee reaaaally badly during the entire bliming interview! Damn you tiny bladder! At least I got to wee in the Mayor of Ilembe's toliet?
This was probably the most educational and enlightening work day I've had whilst being at the Tribune. Vivian Attwood and I set off to a place called 'Umthombo'. Tom Hewitt is a co-founder of the project and he was being interviewed for a feature piece. Here's a link to their site for more information about their work with street kids. Seriously worth knowing about! http://www.umthombo.org/website/

Behind the scenes. Journalist Vivian Attwood and a film crew doing work for a programme in Germany.

Another behind the scenes photo. Sports journalist Simon Osler interviewing Bianca Thomson whilst Sandile Ndlovu takes some shots. I have been so lucky to get the chance to work with Sandile. He's a very busy photographer and I actually forced my way to get the chance to travel up with him for this interview! His work is just so creative and original. Google him!
