Slutwalk Grahamstown

I don’t think one really understands the purpose of this protest unless they attend it
themselves. It is not about dressing up as a Slut for fun, it’s about dressing however the hell you want without being discriminated against or seen as an invitation for sex.

The SlutWalk event started after an incident in Toronto when a police officer said, “Women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimised.” What kak. We are living in a world that accepts The Rape Culture. It normalises the incident of sexual violence as inevitable. This is something we have all in some way or the other come across. We need to change this mindset, we shouldn't have to worry about such things!

SlutWalk was in CT, Durbs & Joburg, and now Rhodes is the first University in SA to have held the SlutWalk (so far). I’m proud to be a Rhodent but sad that we have to resort to having protests in an attempt to put an end to sexual violence.

  2. ^ Great to hear you'll be here!
It is great to have men's support, however not enough participants as a whole (there were only 50 or so). This sort of thing needs to be addressed to men more specifically as it is more their issue than a woman's!
